Teen and Adult Creative Arts

Beginning Guitar

For ages 9-17, no experience necessary. Learn the basics of playing guitar in this fun and easy five-class series. Homework will be assigned to help each student become a proficient guitar player. Must bring a guitar and pick and tuner.

Color Illustration

Do you have a story you'd like to publish? A children's book that you've always wanted to share?  Join instructor Jon Guerzon of the Jagged Lines of Imagination Academy to sample the variety of illustrating mediums, while developing a production process.  Topics include story layout, page composition and digital production. Ikebana - Japanese Flower Arranging

"Flowers," says Shuji Ikeda, "provide an opportunity to express oneself and communicate without the benefit of language."  Expand your creative side and build your imagination as you learn traditional and modern Japanese flower arranging with the help and guidance from well known Bay area instructor, Shuji Ikeda. His work can be seen online at http://ikebanadojo.com. Ikebana is a style of flower arrangement that the Japanese developed and have appreciated for centuries. The rules of ikebana were discovered and established through over 500 years of observing nature and the manner in which plants grow. Bring vase, flowers, and scissors. Sign up by April 2.

Self Portrait and Symbolism

Learn to draw a realistic self portrait by looking in the mrror and using human face proportions. Students will draw the other side of their self portrait abstractly by drawing who they think they are, using symbols, shapes, and objects. Develop technical skills using pencils, color shading, value and composition. All materials provided. Ages 10-18.

Tessellation

What is Tessellation? It is the art of repeating a pattern of distinct shapes with no gaps or overlapping. Students, ages 9-14, will learn the technique that inspired M.C. Escher and use basic shapes to create works of art. Using math and creativity, your child will create masterpieces to bring home for all to enjoy. All materials provided.
