Morelli Park and Boat Launch Grand Re-Opening

(Stockton, CA) – Celebrate the first phase of the downtown marina and promenade project with the grand re-opening of Morelli Park and Boat Launch, Monday, July 14, 2008, 10:00 a.m. Ceremonies will take place at the newly renovated Morelli Park, located along the downtown Stockton waterfront on Weber Avenue, just under Interstate 5, near the junction of Highway 4.

“One of our greatest assets as a city is our waterfront location,” said Gordon Palmer, City Manager. “Morelli Park provides boaters with access to the water in the heart of our city, with an urban park for everyone to enjoy picnics and recreation.”

A large portion of the project was grant-funded, including $2.245 million from the California Department of Boating and Waterways and $325,000 from the State Department of Fish and Game, Wildlife Conservation Board. Callander Associates Landscape Architecture, Inc., and Transystems, Inc., provided architecture and engineering services, and Diede Construction began renovations in September of 2007. The total cost of the project was $4.3 million.

A dry stack storage facility will be completed by the end of this year at the eastern end of the Park with the marina and promenade to follow next year. Renovations and improvements to the Park include: a four-lane boat launch ramp; three new boarding ramps; remodeled restroom facilities; reconfigured and expanded parking area; new access road, sidewalks, lighting and electrical, fencing, landscaping and irrigation, water and sewer lines, signage, and entry gate and kiosk.

The Morelli Park and Boat Launch Grand Re-Opening is free and open to the public. For questions, please contact the City of Stockton Redevelopment Department at (209) 937-8539.
