Stockton Municipal Utilities Department Confirms

Area Water Supplies are Sufficient

(Stockton, CA) – Stockton Municipal Utilities Department (MUD) officials have determined there is an adequate supply of water for area residents this summer. Although Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed an Executive Order proclaiming a statewide drought for California on June 4, 2008, Stockton water supplies are not significantly impacted.

The City of Stockton adopted a water conservation program in February of this year. Even though our local supply is adequate, Stockton residents and businesses are encouraged to continue with voluntary conservation efforts. Rebates are available for water-efficient toilets and washing machines through the California Urban Water Conservation Council (CUWCC). The new program is designed to comply with all of the Best Management Practices proposed by the CUWCC and save up to 10 percent of the annual projected use.

“Water is our most precious resource,” said Mayor Ed Chavez. “We must all do our part to adopt new habits and conserve.”

Everyone can help save water. Simple things like making sure that the dishwasher is fully loaded before running it, watering lawns during off-peak hours, and using more water-saving fixtures and appliances, such as water-efficient toilets and washing machines, will, collectively, make a huge difference. Businesses can also contribute by posting signs about conservation to increase employee awareness and adjusting equipment to use less water.

For detailed information about water conservation, rebates, and saving water for Stockton’s future, visit www.stocktongov.com/MUD, or, contact Sharene Gonzales, City of Stockton Municipal Utilities Department, at (209) 937-8791.
