State Budget Impacts Local Services
(Stockton, CA) - On Saturday, February 20, and Saturday, February 27, volunteers and local elected officials will be available to answer questions about how the State of California budget process impacts services provided in local communities. Between noon and 5:00 p.m. on the next two consecutive Saturdays, information tables will be set up in front of the downtown Stockton and Lodi cinemas.
In the last State budget cycle, State lawmakers borrowed approximately $2 billion in property taxes from local government and kept $2.05 billion in local redevelopment funds. These funds are used to provide fire protection, law enforcement, parks, libraries, transit systems, senior and social services, affordable housing, jobs, economic growth and many other local services.
Local elected officials, public safety officials, business and labor leaders, and public transportation advocates have formed a coalition to in an effort to keep local dollars working in local communities.
