A Stockton Theme Song![]()
On June 27, 2006, the Stockton City Council presented the following Commendation to composer Thomas J. Castles:
COMMENDATION WHEREAS, Thomas J. Castles composed the song, “Stockton’s Someplace Special” in 1982, and WHEREAS, On December 19, 1983, the Stockton City Council took action to acknowledge the song as a theme song of the City of Stockton, and WHEREAS, Thomas J. Castles has established a tradition of music in his family and the community, and WHEREAS, Thomas J. Castles is to be commended for his devotion to the community and love of Stockton, and WHEREAS, “Stockton’s Someplace Special” was performed and recorded again in Victory Park on June 21, 2006, at the City of Stockton Parks and Recreation Department Concerts in the Park, for all to enjoy, and WHEREAS, Whenever possible, the recording will be used to remind Stocktonians of the first City slogan adopted on March 10, 1975, “Stockton…Someplace Special.” NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDWARD J. CHAVEZ, as Mayor of the City of Stockton and on behalf of the Stockton City Council, do hereby commend Thomas J. Castles, upon the occasion of the performance of his song written in the last millennium and performed for a new generation, for his outstanding contribution to the art of music and his devotion to both music and the Stockton community.
